چکیده

This paper discusses the application of coalitional model predictive control (MPC) to freeways traffic networks, where goal is reducing time spent by drivers through a dynamic setting variable speed limits (VSL) and ramp metering. The prediction METANET used represent flows evolution. system behavior objective function lead non-convex non-linear optimization problem, which can only be solved in centralized fashion for small networks. underlying motivation this continued advance clustering methods large-scale spatially distributed systems. global freeway partitioned into set coupled sub-stretches, turn are assigned different agents involved problem. These local controllers dynamically assemble coalitions take coordinated measures. In work, top-down approach considered: bottom layer consists that compute VSL ramp-metering across time; supervisory changes periodically information exchange structure promote those bring greater performance system. way, balance sought between optimality efficiency. Finally, simulated on stretch cooperation with adjacent sub-stretches allowed.

Traffic Engineering Based on Model Predictive Control

In recent years, the time variation of Internet traffic has increased due to the growth of streaming and cloud services. Backbone networks must accommodate such traffic without congestion. Traffic engineering with traffic prediction is one approach to stably accommodating time-varying traffic. In this approach, routes are calculated from predicted traffic to avoid congestion, but predictions ma...

Acknowledgements In the last four years, during the time when I was working towards this thesis, there were both cheerful moments and tough moments. All these moments made this part of my life more colorful and more meaningful. I owe a lot of thanks to the people who guided me, who help me, who accompanied me, who shared t...

Stochastic Model Predictive Control for Urban Traffic Networks

This paper proposes a stochastic model predictive control (MPC) framework for traffic signal coordination and control in urban traffic networks. One of the important features of the proposed stochastic MPC model is that uncertain traffic demands and stochastic disturbances are taken into account. Aiming to effectively model the uncertainties and avoid queue spillback in traffic networks, we dev...

A Second-Order Lagrangian Macroscopic Traffic Flow Model for Freeways

A macroscopic traffic flow model describes the evolution of aggregated traffic characteristics over time and space, which is a basic and critical component for various modern intelligent transportation systems, e.g., a real-time freeway control system. Traditional macroscopic traffic flow models are built in the Eulerian coordinates using Eulerian traffic characteristics, such as density, speed...

Integrated traffic control for mixed urban and freeway networks: A model predictive control approach

We develop a control method for networks containing both urban roads and freeways. These two road types are closely connected: congestion on the freeway often causes spill-back leading to urban queues, slowing down the urban traffic, and vice versa. As a consequence, control measures taken in one of the two areas can have a significant influence on the other area. We first develop a model that ...
